Our objective was to bring a new freshness and vitality to the limited and traditional Belgian wine market (with its over-concentration on French wines), by offering a new look at wines produced elsewhere in the world.  Still trend-setting, we are as motivated as ever to remain at the very forefront of the fine wine trade at world level. On top of that, our intention is to emphasize all producers respecting nature.  Because of their relative small size, they have substantially less commercial and marketing power.  Still, their quality wines ‘from nature’ deserve all due respect.  Don’t forget that consumption of those wines in moderate amounts are excellent for your health. ‘New World Visions, Old World Values’ is our slogan.  The dynamic forces from the southern hemisphere have been a wake-up call for the northern one.  Vice versa, the northern hemisphere teaches the southern one at high speed the notions of refinement in wine and ‘terroir’.  This cross-pollination is a blessing for the consumer.  More elegant wines are to be launched as a result.  Our target is to pursue selecting those wines for you. Finally, we keep an open mind as to new technologies, as e.g. the recent revolution with regard to bottle closures.  Matthys Wijnimport was amongst the very first companies to start importing wines closed with the so-called screwcaps, at the end of the nineties.  When we founded our company in the early nineties, a lot of people criticized us, claiming there was no market for non-french wines.  Likewise, these folks are sceptical about our strategy to support wineries going for these new technologies.  In the meantime, the market has acclaimed New World wines and we believe strongly that the minds will become more open-minded with regard to closures.  The romantism of uncorking a bottle quickly turns sour when smelling musty wines.
